Do you have a loved one in any program for seniors? A senior center, an assisted living or a nursing home? You must know the policy of the facility in regards to what they will do if your loved one suffers cardiac arrest. According to this article, this facility’s policy was that if a senior had a health crisis, and there was a need for CPR, ONLY the rescue squad could perform CPR. In this case, a woman lay waiting for the rescue team who didn’t arrive quickly enough and she ended up dying. If you have any advanced directives, like a “do not resuscitate” order, give a copy of it to the director of the facility in which your loved attends or resides. (*Or speak to the social worker if one is available).
