If you think back to some of your fondest memories from early childhood, I would guess that they often involve a senior. I remember as a child being fascinated by older adults- either in my neighborhood, at church or even my grandparents who lived in FL (I was in NC). There is something magical as a child getting to know someone who has lived “such a long time”. Something cool about looking at all the old stuff in their house. Something interesting about their smell- the smell of a pipe or even of moth balls!
This article describes the fond relationship between a three year old boy and his 89 year old neighbor. It is a reminder to me to always take the time to get to know your neighbor. A loving and trusting relationship with your senior neighbor will not only improve the quality of life for your neighbor- it will improve yours as well. This article is really touching.
